Melbourne Orlando International Airport prices parking in two lines and rentals in one daily charge

Melbourne Orlando International Airport charges $1.00 per 20 minutes and $16.00 maximum per 24-hour period in its public lot, a short walk from ticketing with no shuttle. Its rental page names eight companies and no price, while its audited FY 2025 financial report publishes a $6.00 Customer Facility Charge per transaction day on car rentals.

MLB parking is one public lot priced at $16.00 per 24-hour period, raised from $14 on October 1, 2025, the effective date in the FY 26 budget book. Rental cars share that ground. The same budget book, a proposal dated May 28, 2025, counts 275 stalls in the public parking lot being used as ready return stalls by the car rental companies, and sets aside $5,000,000 of Customer Facility Charge money to move them out.

Those documents sit one click behind the pages a traveler reads. Everything below comes from mlbair.com and from the files the airport links there, read on 16 September 2026: the parking and rental pages, the Rate Schedule FY 26, the budget books for FY 25 and FY 26, the Annual Financial Report for FY 2025, the 2025 Annual Report and the Melbourne Airport Authority minutes for January to June 2026.

A single public lot beside ticketing, and what its rate page leaves unsaid

The parking page at mlbair.com is short. It calls the product Public Parking, describes on-airport parking just a short walk from the terminal with no shuttles, and places it steps from ticketing and the security checkpoint. Designated accessible parking sits close to the terminal entrance, and drivers who need help in the lot are sent to the Melbourne Airport Police Department at 321-288-0147, or to 9-1-1 in an emergency. A footnote adds that MLB regularly evaluates airport parking and that ongoing improvements are being made.

Waiting for an arrival costs nothing. The free Cell Phone Waiting Lot is open 24/7 and reached from the Return to Terminal road, and the 2025 Annual Report says it was repaved during 2025 and given QR code signage that opens real-time flight updates. The map on the parking page pins that waiting lot, not the public lot.

Most of what a driver asks at a larger airport is missing from the page. Read in full on 16 September 2026, neither the parking page nor the Rate Schedule FY 26 states which payments the exit accepts, what a lost ticket costs, how many days a car may stay, whether tax is included or added, or whether a grace period applies. No parking garage appears on any MLB page read for this guide, so no clearance figure exists; the FY 26 budget book mentions a garage only in the phrase “prolong the need for a parking garage”. The terminal around the lot, from airlines to the ride share curb, is covered in the Melbourne Orlando International Airport guide from curb to gate.

Two rates, one lot, few rules in print.

What the move from $14 to $16 changed for a short stop at MLB

Two MLB sources print the same pair of numbers. The Rate Schedule FY 26, linked from the airport Rates and Charges page, lists Parking Rate until Max reached at $1.00 for each 20 minute block and Parking-Daily Max Rate at $16.00 as a 24 hour max. A year earlier, the FY 25 schedule inside the budget book of May 22, 2024 carried the same $1.00 meter beside a $14.00 line named Parking-Consolidated Rate, and that budget speaks of implementing a single tier parking rate structure of $14 a day.

Time the car stays in the MLB public lotCharge at the $16.00 ceiling, from October 1, 2025Charge at the earlier $14.00 ceiling
20 minutes$1.00$1.00
1 hour$3.00$3.00
3 hours$9.00$9.00
4 hours 40 minutes$14.00$14.00, the old ceiling
5 hours$15.00$14.00
5 hours 20 minutes$16.00, the new ceiling$14.00
24 hours$16.00$14.00

Every row assumes complete 20 minute blocks, because neither document says whether a started block is charged in full; a 21 minute stop may be $1.00 or $2.00. On that reading the increase never touched a stop of 4 hours 40 minutes or less. The meter line in the FY 26 schedule even keeps the label FY 25 beside its $1.00. The point where the meter stops moved 40 minutes later, so the extra $2.00 falls only on stays long enough to hit the ceiling.

For collecting a passenger, the Cell Phone Waiting Lot wins on the criterion of price, since $0.00 is the only lower figure the airport prints. The nuance is time: the page places the waiting lot just minutes from the terminal entrance, and that is the only timing it gives.

Three, seven and fourteen days at MLB set beside Orlando International’s lots

Long stays at MLB follow one published unit, the 24-hour period. A trip that ends exactly on a 24-hour mark costs $16.00 times the number of periods. A trip that runs past its last full period adds a remainder the airport does not describe, so the table carries three cases: no remainder, two extra hours at the $1.00 meter, and 5 hours 20 minutes or more, which reaches a further $16.00 whichever way the remainder is billed. Figures for Orlando International are the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority rates read in September 2026.

14 days$224.00$230.00$240.00$196$336

For a Space Coast driver weighing parking alone over a week, the Orlando International economy lots win at $98 against $112, on the criterion of the published 24-hour rate. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority charges $14 per 24-hour period at North Park Place, South Park Place and West Park, allows 90 days, and runs a free shuttle to all three, which is the nuance: the MLB page promises no shuttles at all. Against the Orlando International garages at $24 per 24-hour period, the MLB lot wins every row, by $56 over a week and $112 over fourteen days. The full Orlando product list, from cell phone lots to valet, is in the Orlando International parking rates product by product.

Until October 1, 2025 the MLB ceiling was $14, level with those Orlando economy lots, so a week cost $98 at both. The rise cost a seven day parker $14.00 and a fourteen day parker $28.00. Further south, President Donald J. Trump International Airport, formerly Palm Beach International, publishes an $8 maximum daily rate for its Economy Lot, which puts a week at $56, as the four parking ceilings at DJT in West Palm Beach show.

MLB sells proximity, not the lowest rate.

The MLB rental roster is Orlando International’s, minus Payless and Sixt

The MLB rental page is one sentence and a list. It states that the following rental car agencies are available near baggage claim, then prints eight brands with a telephone number and a website each. The homepage adds that the rental car area is located just off baggage claim, and the Melbourne Airport Authority minutes treat that area as part of the terminal: the January 28, 2026 construction update reports fire sprinklers complete in the car rental and baggage claim area, and the May 27, 2026 update reports the ceiling project in the ticketing, baggage and car rental areas complete and closed out.

Thrifty321-727-8484DollarYes

Counted by value, the eight entries hold six distinct numbers, printed as plain text rather than tap-to-call links. The Dollar and Thrifty line, 321-727-8484, is the only one with the 321 area code the airport uses for its own 321-723-6227. None of the eight entries carries a rate, an opening hour, a lot location or a return instruction. Orlando International lists ten on-airport companies on its rental page, read in September 2026, and all eight MLB brands are among them; the two missing at MLB are Payless and Sixt. The levels and returns behind those ten are set out in the rental car levels and returns at Orlando International.

The detail the airport does publish about the eight is financial. Its FY 2025 Annual Financial Report describes car rental companies as concessionaires operating in the terminal facility that pay a percentage of their gross revenues, some under a minimum annual guarantee, and it puts the terms of its concession agreements, rental and food and retail alike, at month-to-month up to 12 years. The same report says car rental concession revenue fell 5% in FY 2025, blaming fewer international passengers and an increase in the supply of rental cars which has driven down the price the car rental agencies charge for daily rentals.

Prices fell, by the airport’s account, and no price is printed.

The $6.00 Customer Facility Charge that follows each MLB rental day

The only rental figure a customer can budget from sits in the finance section. In its FY 2025 Annual Financial Report, dated March 18, 2026, the airport states that car rental companies charge a Customer Facility Charge (CFC) of $4.00 per transaction day, that they remit it to the Airport monthly, and that the Airport is increasing the daily CFC rate to $6.00 per transaction day effective October 1, 2025, to generate more revenues to fund car rental projects. An increase from $4.00 to $6.00 also appears in the FY 26 budget book of May 28, 2025.

Length of an MLB rentalCFC at $6.00 per transaction day, from October 1, 2025CFC at the earlier $4.00 per transaction dayMLB public lot for the same days, ending on a 24-hour mark
3 days$18.00$12.00$48.00
7 days$42.00$28.00$112.00
14 days$84.00$56.00$224.00

The table counts one transaction day per day of rental, which is how the report’s own phrase daily CFC rate reads. Neither the rental page nor any document read here says whether the charge shows as its own line on the rental agreement or whether sales tax applies to it, so nothing is added on top. Set beside the lot, a week of CFC is $42.00 against $112.00 of parking: a local who parks at MLB and a visitor who rents there both generate a daily sum for the airport, and only the parker’s figure is printed on its travel pages.

The charge matters to the Authority’s books as well. CFC revenue was $1,556,684 in FY 2024 and $1,540,320 in FY 2025, and the FY 26 budget book requests $1,756,076. Divided by the $4.00 rate, the FY 2025 total corresponds to about 385,080 transaction days, our arithmetic rather than a figure the airport prints, in a year the 2025 Annual Report counts approximately 329,000 revenue enplanements. Terminal parking brought in $2,075,648 over the same fiscal year, by that report’s count.

The charge is fixed; the rental it rides on is not.

Why 275 stalls in the MLB public lot have been holding rental cars

The CFC and the public lot meet in one capital project. Under the heading RAC-Ready Return Lot, the FY 26 budget book describes demolishing the Eastern Florida State College hangar and office building to make way for the relocation of the Rent-A-Car ready/return parking stalls, with modifications and restriping of the existing public parking lot. Its justification reads that the project will create 420 ready return stalls for the car rental companies, plus 275 stalls will become available in the public parking lot that are currently being used as ready return stalls. Funding is $5,000,000 of CFCs, across a fiscal year running October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026, and deferral would mean continued capacity issues for both rental car customers and parking customers.

A second CFC project follows the first. The same book budgets a common use rental car quick turnaround facility at $11,000,000 in total, $1,000,000 of it from CFCs and $10,000,000 from debt, to replace the individual quick turnaround facilities along NASA Boulevard, with preliminary design in FY 26 and final design and construction in FY 27.

Cash flow projection in the July 15, 2026 board agendaJuly 6, 2026Car Rental Ready Return Lot at $5,000,000, no prior expenditure, payments scheduled from September 2026 to May 2027

The shortage behind both projects was on paper a year earlier. In the words of the FY 25 budget book, there are several days of the week that the public parking lot is at or very near capacity, which is causing an increase in passenger complaints, and going to an off-site parking solution is neither economically feasible or customer friendly.

No document read on 16 September 2026 says whether the 275 stalls have been handed back. The June 24, 2026 minutes track nine construction items, from the in-line baggage system and the skylight to Taxiway A and the T-hangar demolition, and the five earlier sets of 2026 minutes likewise name no ready return lot. The nearest thing to a date is a cash flow projection of July 6, 2026, attached to the board agenda of July 15, 2026: it lists the Car Rental Ready Return Lot at $5,000,000 with no prior expenditure and schedules $4,500,000 of payments from September 2026 through May 2027. On that projection the money is still going out in spring 2027, so a driver in late 2026 should not count on the 275 stalls being back, and no MLB page says either way.

Renters’ $6.00 a day is budgeted to win back parkers’ stalls.

Small print in MLB documents that changes a parking or rental bill

  • The Rate Schedule FY 27, the one in force from October 1, 2026, lists a Ready Return Space at $30.00 per month, up from $25.00 in FY 26, while a public driver filling a stall for 30 days pays $480.00 at the $16.00 ceiling. The schedule does not say whether that $30.00 line is what the rental companies pay for the 275 stalls, so the comparison stops at the two printed figures.
  • Ride share pickup at MLB is outside baggage claim, and the Rate Schedules for FY 26 and FY 27 both set an Uber/Lyft Trip Fee of $2.50 per trip. The schedule lists it among the fees the airport charges without naming who pays, and no MLB page says whether a rider sees it on the fare.
  • Further down, the schedule prices a Commercial Ground Transportation Vehicle Permit at $50.00 per year and a Trip Fee of $2.00 per trip for vehicles of 8 passengers or less, or $10.00 for larger ones, while the ground transportation page lists 27 taxi, limo and shuttle operators without a single fare.
  • Lower rental car concession revenue is expected in the FY 26 budget book because TUI is projected to operate 8 flights per week seasonally, the airport’s own signal that international arrivals move rental demand at MLB.
  • Cruise passengers landing at MLB add Port Canaveral parking to the bill, a calculation worked through in what flying into Melbourne costs once the port leg is booked.

Where a parking or rental plan at MLB comes apart

The first is assuming a space on a busy day. The FY 25 budget book records a public lot at or very near capacity several days of the week, the FY 26 book warns of continued capacity issues if the ready return lot is deferred, and no MLB page read on 16 September 2026 names an overflow lot or posts how many spaces are free.

The second is assuming a started 24-hour period is billed at the meter. The airport publishes a maximum per 24-hour period and nothing about the remainder, so a week that ends 6 hours late can cost $128.00 rather than $112.00.

The third is treating the rental page as the price picture. Its eight entries carry no rate and no mention of the $6.00 CFC, which appears only in the Annual Financial Report and the budget book.

The fourth is calling a shared line without naming the brand. Alamo and National both print 800-227-7368 and Dollar and Thrifty both print 321-727-8484, so the brand on the reservation has to be said on the call.

The fifth is circling the terminal to collect someone. The Cell Phone Waiting Lot costs nothing and is open 24/7, while any stop in the public lot starts at $1.00 per 20 minutes.

Which MLB page or document each figure came from

The parking rates, accessible parking line, police number and waiting lot details came from the MLB Parking and Cell Lot page; the eight brands and their numbers from the Rental Cars page; the rental area location from the homepage; ride share pickup and the 27 operators from the Ground Transportation page. Those pages and the homepage were read twice on 16 September 2026 with identical extracted text. The rate lines were checked against the Rate Schedule FY 26 linked from Rates and Charges, downloaded twice with identical text and also read as an image. The Annual Financial Report and the FY 26 budget book were downloaded twice as well, with identical text. CFC rates and revenue, concession terms and the 5% fall came from the FY 2025 Annual Financial Report. The $14 to $16 increase, the ready return lot, the quick turnaround facility and the FY 26 requests came from the FY 26 budget book; the capacity sentence, the 132 spaces and the $14 single tier from the FY 25 budget book; the 120 spaces, the waiting lot repaving, terminal parking revenue and enplanements from the 2025 Annual Report. The 2026 minutes are scanned images and were read by optical character recognition. Figures for Orlando International are the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s and the DJT figure comes from flydjt.org, both read in September 2026. Multi-day totals, remainder cases and transaction days are our arithmetic.

The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Parking rates usually change in January, shuttle fares and cruise line transfer prices change by season, and ship schedules change weekly; check the issuer’s page before you travel. Questions about MLB parking and rental charges, answered from airport documents

The six answers below rest on the 16 September 2026 readings of mlbair.com and the budget, audit and annual report files it links.

When did parking at Melbourne airport go up to $16 a day?

October 1, 2025 is the effective date the FY 26 budget book of Melbourne Orlando International Airport gives for raising public parking from $14 to $16 per day. The $1.00 charge per 20 minutes did not change, so the increase only reaches stays longer than 4 hours 40 minutes, which now hit the ceiling at 5 hours 20 minutes.

What is the Customer Facility Charge on a rental car at Melbourne airport?

A charge car rental companies collect per transaction day and remit to the airport monthly. MLB’s FY 2025 Annual Financial Report puts it at $4.00, increasing to $6.00 per transaction day effective October 1, 2025, to fund car rental projects. Counted per rental day, a week carries $42.00 of CFC and fourteen days $84.00.

Does Melbourne Orlando International Airport have a parking garage?

No garage appears on any MLB page read in September 2026. The parking page describes on-airport parking a short walk from the terminal with no shuttles, and the FY 26 budget book mentions a garage only as a future need that moving 275 rental car stalls out of the public lot would prolong.

Why are rental cars parked in the MLB public parking lot?

The FY 26 budget book says 275 stalls in the public parking lot are being used as ready return stalls by the car rental companies. It budgets $5,000,000 of Customer Facility Charges for a separate lot with 420 stalls, and the board minutes for January to June 2026 do not list it among construction updates. The airport’s cash flow projection of July 6, 2026 schedules its payments from September 2026 to May 2027.

Does a week of parking cost less at MLB or at Orlando International?

Orlando International’s economy lots cost less, at $14 per 24-hour period against $16.00 at MLB, so a week is $98 against $112. Its garages cost more, at $24 per 24-hour period or $168 a week. The trade is the shuttle, which Orlando runs to its economy lots and the MLB page says its lot does not use.

Which Orlando airport rental companies are missing at Melbourne airport?

Payless and Sixt. Orlando International lists ten on-airport rental companies, and Melbourne Orlando International Airport lists eight near baggage claim: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. All eight appear on the Orlando list, and the MLB page publishes a phone number for each but no rate or hours.

Renters at MLB are funding the stalls that drivers need back

The airport sells its lot on proximity and its rentals on location, and prints almost nothing else about either. The documents behind those pages are more specific: a lot at or very near capacity several days a week in 2024, a ceiling raised to $16.00 in 2025, 120 spaces added, and a $6.00 daily charge on rentals budgeted to move 275 rental stalls out of the public lot. The logistics look simple at the curb; the crowding is written up in the budget.

At MLB, the rental customer’s $6.00 a day is budgeted to hand parkers back 275 stalls the rental fleet was using.
