Cruise Terminal AA is the largest cruise terminal in the world and its garage stops at seven feet
Cruise Terminal AA is the PortMiami building MSC Cruises sails from, and its garage carries one published clearance, 7.0 feet. Garage AA is priced by Miami-Dade County at $35 per vehicle, per space, per day. A three night sailing bills $148.40 with tax, a seven night sailing $296.80, and a taller vehicle parks elsewhere.
PortMiami’s operator describes Cruise Terminal AA in superlatives and measures its garage in inches. The terminal page calls the 490,000 square feet facility the largest cruise terminal in the world, dates it to 2025, counts four levels, and states that it can accommodate up to three ships and process up to 36,000 passengers in one day. The parking page gives the building that serves it a single line of height: Clearance of 7.0′.
No other garage at the port is written that way. Multi-Level Garage C opens at 9 feet, Multi-Level Garage G at 9 feet 6 inches, Multi-Level Garages D, J and K at 8 feet 2 inches, and even Multi-Level Garage A reaches 8 feet on its second floor. Garage AA is the only facility on the county’s clearance table whose tallest published figure is 7 feet, on every deck it lists.
The rate is the other half of the assignment. At $35 per day for anything overnight or greater, Garage AA carries the same figure the county prints for Garage B, and $10 above the line it prints for Garages C, D, F, G and Surface Lot E. Whoever books the biggest terminal at PortMiami books the tallest price and the lowest roof.
What follows is what Miami-Dade County and MSC Cruises each publish about that pairing, the two different ways they count a parking day, and what the county’s own schedule offers a driver whose vehicle will not fit. Every figure below was read from the issuer’s page in September 2026.
| What Cruise Terminal AA and Garage AA come with | The figure the issuer publishes | Issuer |
|---|---|---|
| Size of the terminal building | 490,000 square feet across four levels, opened in 2025 | Miami-Dade County |
| Peak throughput of the terminal | Up to three ships and up to 36,000 passengers in one day | Miami-Dade County |
| Clearance of the assigned garage | Clearance of 7.0′, with 7 feet on the second floor and the remaining floors | Miami-Dade County |
| Long term parking rate | $35 per vehicle, per space, per day, overnight or greater | Miami-Dade County |
| Short stay parking rate | $20 per vehicle, per space, per day, marked no overnight | Miami-Dade County |
| The same two rates in the cruise line’s words | “$35 per night for overnight cruise parking and $20 for day visitors” | MSC Cruises |
| Street address of the terminal | 2200 N. Cruise Blvd, Miami, FL 33132, which is also the county’s address for Garage AA | MSC Cruises and Miami-Dade County |
Six of those seven rows come from Miami-Dade County. The row that differs is the one a booked passenger actually reads.
What Miami-Dade County and MSC Cruises each call the building at 2200 N. Cruise Blvd
Two issuers name the same terminal two ways. Miami-Dade County files it as Cruise Terminal AA and pairs it with Multi-Level Garage AA on the northside list. On its own Miami page, MSC Cruises writes that select sailings will depart from the new state-of-the-art MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, also known as Terminal AA, and adds the pronunciation in brackets: Double A.
Neither issuer prints the phrase MSC World Terminal. It appears on neither the county’s cruise terminal page nor the cruise line’s own Miami page, both read in September 2026, so a passenger looking for it on the road will not find it. Both issuers do print the letter pair, and MSC Cruises twice tells drivers to follow the signage for Terminal AA after entering PortMiami.
The address the cruise line publishes for the terminal is 2200 N. Cruise Blvd, Miami, FL 33132. On the county’s list of garage addresses, that same street number belongs to Garage AA, alongside Garage A at 2000 N Cruise Blvd. and Garage B at 1756 N Cruise Blvd. The address a passenger types into a phone is therefore the parking structure, which is convenient for a driver and misleading for anyone being dropped off.
One qualifier in the cruise line’s own sentence deserves reading twice. Select sailings, not all sailings, is what the wording says, and guests are told to check their cruise documentation for their assigned terminal as well as information about parking. No ship by ship berth list is published by the county either, which is why the terminal letter on a booking is the only reliable join between a sailing and a garage rate. The way the county letters its ten cruise terminals and pairs each one with a facility is set out in the northside and southside split behind every PortMiami garage assignment, and how a booked sailing gets pinned to one building is worked through in what the county publishes about which ship uses which PortMiami terminal.
The clearance line that appears in only one PortMiami rate block
A clearance table covering eight PortMiami garages sits on the county parking page, and one of its figures is repeated inside a rate block. The repeat belongs to Garage AA, whose block ends with the words Clearance of 7.0′ after the two rate lines and the parking enquiry number, (888) 264-1002. The Garage B block and the block covering Garages C, D, F, G and Surface Lot E carry no height at all.
| PortMiami parking facility | First floor clearance | Second floor clearance | Remaining floors | County long term rate | Terminal it is paired with |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-Level Garage AA, 2200 N Cruise Blvd. | Not published | 7 feet | 7 feet | $35 per day | Cruise Terminal AA |
| Multi-Level Garage A, 2000 N Cruise Blvd. | 7 feet 2 inches | 8 feet | 7 feet 2 inches | No county rate published | Cruise Terminal A |
| Multi-Level Garage B, 1756 N Cruise Blvd. | 7 feet 6 inches | Not published | 7 feet 6 inches | $35 per day | Cruise Terminal B |
| Multi-Level Garage C, 1648 N Cruise Blvd. | 9 feet | Not published | 6 feet 10 inches | $25 per day | Cruise Terminal C |
| Multi-Level Garage D, 1400 Cruise Blvd. | 8 feet 2 inches | Not published | 6 feet 8 inches | $25 per day | Cruise Terminal D |
| Multi-Level Garage G, 921 N America Way | 9 feet 6 inches | Not published | 6 feet 11 inches | $25 per day | Cruise Terminals F, G and V |
| Multi-Level Garage J, 1122 Caribbean Way | 8 feet 2 inches | Not published | 6 feet 10 inches | No county rate published | Cruise Terminal J |
| Multi-Level Garage K, 1124 Caribbean Way | 8 feet 2 inches | Not published | 8 feet 2 inches | No county rate published | Cruise Terminal J |
| Surface Lot E, 625 Florida Way | Open lot with no overhead clearance | Open lot with no overhead clearance | Open lot with no overhead clearance | $25 per space, per day | Cruise Terminal E |
Read down the height columns and Garage AA is not the lowest number at PortMiami. Garage D falls to 6 feet 8 inches above its ground floor and Garage C to 6 feet 10 inches, both lower than anything published for Garage AA. Its distinction is flatness: 7 feet is simultaneously the floor and the ceiling of Garage AA, while every other garage on the table offers at least one deck of 7 feet 2 inches or better.
That distinction decides who gets turned around and when. A driver at Garage C or Garage G clears the entrance easily and discovers the problem at the ramp to the second deck. A driver at Garage AA meets the same 7 feet at the entrance, which is a better place to find out, and there is no taller floor further in. Garage K is the mirror image, holding 8 feet 2 inches from the ground to the top, and Garage K sits on the southside at 1124 Caribbean Way, serving Cruise Terminal J.
No height figure appears anywhere on the cruise line’s side of the pairing. The MSC Cruises Miami page covers parking, luggage, ride share drop off, disabled permits and the Florida disabled veteran plate under Florida Statute 320.084, and says nothing about vehicle height. The number that decides whether a booked passenger can park where the cruise line tells them to park exists on one page only, and it is not the cruise line’s.
MSC Cruises prices Terminal AA parking per night and Miami-Dade County bills it per day
MSC Cruises states that parking rates are $35 per night for overnight cruise parking and $20 for day visitors. Miami-Dade County states $35 per vehicle, per space, per day for anything overnight or greater. One word separates the two sentences, and item 710 of PortMiami Terminal Tariff No. 010 turns it into money.
Item 710, in the tariff effective October 1, 2025, applies established parking rates to the day a vehicle enters the parking lot and to each succeeding day it remains on the lot. Entry day plus each following day is nights plus one. A Saturday to Saturday sailing on MSC is seven nights and eight billed days, which is $280.00 rather than the $245.00 that $35 per night describes.
Tax widens the gap again. The same tariff states that its rates and charges are exclusive of any sales tax and names the Florida general rate at 6%, which lifts eight days at Garage AA to $296.80. Against the $245.00 a passenger reads on the cruise line’s page, the difference is $51.80, and $35.00 of that is a whole extra day nobody counted.
Sailing length changes the size of the miss and never its direction. On a three night MSC cruise the four billed days come to $140.00 before tax and $148.40 after, against $105.00 read per night, a gap of $43.40. On a seven night sailing the gap is $51.80. On an eleven night itinerary the twelve billed days reach $420.00 and $445.20, against $385.00 read per night, a gap of $60.20 for two adults sharing one vehicle.
The county’s own arithmetic confirms the day count from an odd direction. Its lost ticket line, which applies to the $25 garages and not to Garage AA, caps the charge at a maximum of $275 and describes that as the equivalent of an 11-day cruise. Eleven days at $25 is exactly $275, which is the county pricing a cruise by days rather than nights in its own schedule. The full rate sheet, block by block, with the eight day count applied to each terminal, is worked through in the PortMiami parking schedule read garage by garage.
Where a vehicle taller than seven feet parks at PortMiami
Exactly one home for a vehicle that will not fit under a garage roof appears on the county schedule, and it is not attached to Cruise Terminal AA. Surface Lot E at 625 Florida Way is described as an open lot with no overhead clearance with designated spaces for oversized vehicles, accommodating oversized vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers, at $25 per space, per day, or $50 per day if two spaces are utilized.
Surface Lot E is the lot the county pairs with Cruise Terminal E. No line in the county schedule attaches an oversized space to Cruise Terminal AA, and no garage to terminal bus closes the distance: the PortMiami cruise FAQ states that free shuttle service runs between terminals only when a ship departs from one terminal and returns to a different terminal, which is a service for ships that change berth mid voyage.
| Way of handling a tall vehicle on an MSC sailing | Published cost and issuer | Eight billed days for one vehicle | Limitation the issuer states | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-Level Garage AA at Cruise Terminal AA | $35 per vehicle, per space, per day, Miami-Dade County | $296.80 with 6% sales tax | Clearance of 7.0′ on every published deck | Any vehicle that measures under seven feet |
| Surface Lot E oversized spaces, 625 Florida Way | $25 per space, per day, Miami-Dade County | $212.00 with 6% sales tax for one space | Paired with Cruise Terminal E, and no shuttle to Cruise Terminal AA is published | Vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers |
| Surface Lot E using two oversized spaces | $50 per day if two spaces are utilized, Miami-Dade County | $424.00 with 6% sales tax | Same lack of a published connection to Cruise Terminal AA | A vehicle towing a trailer that cannot be uncoupled |
| Ride share drop off at Terminal AA | $0.00 in parking, MSC Cruises | $0.00 | Signposted only for guests who are not parking in Terminal AA | A party arriving by Uber, Lyft or taxi |
| Being dropped off by a driver who leaves | $0.00 in parking, Miami-Dade County | $0.00 | Requires somebody to take the vehicle home | Local parties with a second driver |
| The short stay line at Garage AA | $20 per vehicle, per space, per day, Miami-Dade County | Not available for a sailing | Marked no overnight, so a cruise never qualifies | Day visitors seeing a ship off |
For a party whose vehicle clears seven feet, Garage AA wins on the criterion that decides embarkation day, which is that it is the building attached to the terminal, and Miami-Dade County prices the week at $296.80. For a party whose vehicle does not clear seven feet, Surface Lot E wins at $212.00 and forces a separate question, which is how anyone gets from 625 Florida Way to Cruise Terminal AA on foot or otherwise, a leg the county publishes nothing about. The honest reading is that PortMiami sells the oversized space and leaves the last leg to the driver.
The comparison that does not work is the cheap garage swap. Garages C, D and G cost $10 less a day and none of them is paired with Cruise Terminal AA, so the saving exists only for passengers whose ships already berth there. That same wall stands one building along at the port’s other $35 facility, where the $84.80 premium a Norwegian sailing pays over the $25 line buys headroom rather than terms.
The check-in slot MSC Cruises assigns decides when the car goes into Garage AA
MSC Cruises does not run an open arrival window at Cruise Terminal AA. Its embarkation page states that a dedicated check-in slot is assigned by default and could be changed during web check-in, choosing from those available, that guests arriving before their slot opens may be requested to wait outside of the terminal building, and that guests arriving after their slot closes may be denied embarkation.
Those two sentences price the drive as much as the garage does. A 490,000 square feet terminal with four levels does not entitle an early arrival to wait indoors, and the county’s short stay line at $20 per day is marked no overnight, so a driver who turns up hours early is standing outside a building whose garage is already billing the long term rate. Check-in and boarding close 2 hours before the ship’s departure, and MSC Yacht Club guests are the exception, told they may check in at their convenience and at least 2 hours prior to departure.
The order of operations at Terminal AA is also unusual, and MSC Cruises spells it out. Guests are told to keep their luggage with them until they park, then follow signs for luggage drop off once parked, with tags attached securely to each bag beforehand. Its general embarkation page opens the at the terminal list with delivering luggage to staff, before check-in, and a driver who follows that order at Terminal AA leaves the terminal and has to re-enter.
Choosing the wrong lane on arrival produces the same result. On the ride share lane, MSC Cruises writes that the drop off is for guests who are not parking in Terminal AA, and that guests planning to park should follow the signage for parking to avoid leaving the terminal and needing to re-enter. The line between the two lanes is decided before a driver reaches the building, at the point where PortMiami signage first names Terminal AA.
Inside, the terminal is built around biometric processing. The system is called MSC Cruise Ready, and the cruise line describes a Facepod that scans a passport and a face together, an E-gate that opens on a match, and one physical condition: children must be at least 3 feet and 6 inches tall to use it. Terminal AA therefore publishes a minimum height for a passenger and a maximum height for a car, and the second one is 7 feet.
Details a Cruise Terminal AA driver finds on the other issuer’s page
- Three pages publish the airport distance and only two of them agree. Driving from Miami International Airport to PortMiami typically takes 20 minutes and covers approximately nine miles according to MSC Cruises, and Miami International Airport says about 9 miles, while PortMiami itself publishes 7.1 miles. The cruise line sides with the airport against the port.
- The Fort Lauderdale leg carries a second split. From Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the cruise line publishes approximately 26 miles and typically 35 minutes, and PortMiami publishes 25.7 miles for the same trip.
- Miami Central Train Station is the shortest published hop of the three, at approximately 10 minutes by car according to MSC Cruises, which publishes no fare for it.
- A separate telephone line, (888) 264-1002, is printed inside the rate block for Cruise Terminal AA parking enquiries. It is not the number for the rest of the port, which the county gives as 305-960-5463 and 305-960-6454 for parking assistance.
- Nothing about Garage AA can be held in advance. The PortMiami cruise FAQ states that there is no reserved parking and that ample parking is available, and the Garage AA block prints an email address and a telephone number for enquiries rather than a booking link.
- The tunnel route is the one the county promotes and it carries no toll. A dedicated, toll-free route connects PortMiami to I-395 and the MacArthur Causeway, open to all cruise and cargo traffic, in the county’s own description.
- No rental counter waits at the pier. No on-site car rental agencies operate at PortMiami, the county states, and some providers run shuttles from the port to their own offices.
Five ways an MSC sailing from PortMiami budgets the wrong number
Reading $35 as a nightly rate is the first and the most expensive. Per night is the wording MSC Cruises uses and per day is the wording Miami-Dade County uses, and item 710 bills the entry day plus each succeeding day, so a seven night sailing costs $280.00 before tax rather than $245.00.
Stopping at the pre-tax figure is the second. Terminal Tariff No. 010 states that its rates exclude sales tax and names the Florida general rate at 6%, which turns $280.00 into $296.80. The number on the card at the exit booth is the one with the tax in it.
Assuming every MSC sailing from Miami uses Terminal AA is the third. The cruise line’s own wording is that select sailings will depart from the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, and it directs guests to their cruise documentation for their assigned terminal. A different letter carries a different garage and, at Garages C, D and G, a different rate of $25.
Measuring the vehicle after arriving is the fourth. Clearance of 7.0′ is published before anyone leaves home, and the only oversized spaces Miami-Dade County publishes at the whole port sit in Surface Lot E at 625 Florida Way, which the county pairs with Cruise Terminal E rather than with Cruise Terminal AA.
Budgeting the $20 line for a cruise is the fifth. That rate carries the words no overnight beside it and covers day visitors, so a car left for a sailing pays $35 from the first day. The gap between the two lines across eight billed days is $120.00 before tax.
When each Cruise Terminal AA figure was read, and from whom
The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Two county documents meet in any total here that runs on $35 a day. Item 710 of PortMiami Terminal Tariff No. 010 carries $25.00 as its only long term figure and states that the tariff’s rates are exclusive of any sales tax, while the $35 line is published on the county’s PortMiami parking page instead, so a $35 total with 6% added crosses both. Parking rates usually change in January, shuttle fares and cruise line transfer prices change by season, and ship schedules change weekly; check the issuer’s page before you travel. No provider paid for placement here, and none can pay to appear. Where a booking link earns Lot and Gate a commission it is marked as sponsored and flagged in this line, and as of September 2026 no affiliate link is live anywhere on this site.
What MSC passengers ask before driving into Garage AA
The six answers below come from the Miami-Dade County parking schedule, the county’s cruise terminal page and cruise FAQ, item 710 of PortMiami Terminal Tariff No. 010 and the Miami and embarkation pages MSC Cruises publishes, all read in September 2026, with totals calculated at $35 per day and the 6% general rate the tariff names.
Miami-Dade County publishes $35 per vehicle, per space, per day for Multi-Level Garage AA, the facility it pairs with Cruise Terminal AA. Item 710 of Terminal Tariff No. 010 bills the entry day and each succeeding day, so a seven night sailing is eight days, $280.00 before tax and $296.80 at the 6% general rate.
The cruise line writes $35 per night while Miami-Dade County writes $35 per vehicle, per space, per day. The county wording governs, because item 710 of Terminal Tariff No. 010 charges the day of entry and every following day. Seven nights bills eight days, so the per night reading understates a week by $51.80 with tax.
PortMiami’s operator, Miami-Dade County, publishes Clearance of 7.0′ in the Garage AA rate block and 7 feet on both the second floor and the remaining floors in its clearance table. No taller figure is published for any deck of that garage, which makes 7 feet the highest number the county prints for the building serving Cruise Terminal AA.
Surface Lot E at 625 Florida Way, which Miami-Dade County describes as an open lot with no overhead clearance holding designated spaces for oversized vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers. The rate is $25 per space, per day, or $50 per day if two spaces are used. The county pairs that lot with Cruise Terminal E.
At the check-in slot on the cruise ticket. A dedicated slot is assigned by default by MSC Cruises and can be changed during web check-in. Guests arriving before their slot opens may be requested to wait outside the terminal building, and guests arriving after it closes may be denied embarkation. Check-in and boarding close 2 hours before departure.
No. The MSC Cruises Miami page says that select sailings will depart from the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, also known as Terminal AA, and tells guests to check their cruise documentation for their assigned terminal. The letter matters financially, because Miami-Dade County prices Garages C, D, F and G at $25 per day against $35 at Garage AA.
Seven feet is the one measurement at Terminal AA that was not built larger
Every published number Miami-Dade County prints about Cruise Terminal AA points upward except one. The count runs to 490,000 square feet, four levels, up to three ships and up to 36,000 passengers in a single day, and MSC Cruises adds biometric Facepods and E-gates on top. Then the county’s parking page gives that terminal’s garage 7 feet, flat, from the second floor to the last one.
Scale and access were designed by different people. A terminal built for 36,000 passengers a day still empties into a structure whose published ceiling never rises above 7 feet, priced at $35 a day, with the port’s only published oversized spaces sitting at another address under a different terminal letter. The passenger who cannot use Garage AA is not an edge case at a building processing three ships at once; they are simply the passenger the published schedule stops describing.
