Long-Term Parking at Tampa Airport: 45 Days, Whatever You Pay

Every paid space at Tampa International Airport stops on the same day

Tampa International Airport caps parking at 45 days in every facility it runs, from a $32 garage down to a space it gives away free. Economy Parking bills at most $22 per 24 hours with tax included, the Long Term Garage $26 and the Short Term Garage $32. Seven nights cannot exceed $154, $182 or $224 at the gate.

That single number is the unusual part. The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority prints the same 45 day limit beside all three of its maximum charges, and repeats it as one airport wide rule in the Parking Tips block on the same page: the maximum length of parking at any airport facility is 45 days. Price and permission move independently here.

Across the state the two move together. Miami International Airport allows 45 days in its garages at $25.00 a day, 20 days at a valet counter that bills $39.00, and publishes no ceiling at all for its $12.00 Economy Park and Ride, so the dearer the product the sooner Miami-Dade wants the car gone. Everything below was read on tampaairport.com on September 10, 2026, twice for the rate page, across the 689 URLs its sitemap lists. The premises stay fixed: one standard car, consecutive 24 hour periods at the published maximum, no promotional code, no reservation unless a row says otherwise. Hour by hour pricing and the point where the two terminal garages part company belong to the rate ladder TPA publishes at each of its barriers, and the train that reaches the cheapest garage belongs to the ground transportation the airport times from its own terminal.

The 45 days at TPA belongs to the airport and not to the product

Three separate Tampa International Airport documents carry the ceiling and all three give one figure. Its parking page attaches 45 days to each of the three maximum charges and then generalises it in Parking Tips. Its accessible parking guide, dated August 21, 2026, states that the maximum parking duration at any Tampa International Airport parking facility is 45 days and adds that this applies to all parking areas, including accessible parking spaces. Its holiday parking guide, dated November 6, 2025, closes its list of options with the same sentence.

The rule even reaches the spaces that cost nothing. Under Florida State Statutes the airport parks a vehicle free when it carries a Disabled Veterans plate, hand or foot controls, a wheelchair ramp or lift, or a State of Florida Toll Exemption Permit, and the accessible guide marks that entry important: the maximum vehicle stay is 45 days. A driver paying zero and a driver paying $32 a day hold the same permission.

Compare that with the three different answers Miami publishes for one airport, where the number changes with the product and the cheapest lot has no number at all. Tampa also prints the exception Miami never does. For extended parking needs beyond 45 days, the accessible guide says, contact the parking office at (813) 870-8791 to discuss options. The wall has a phone number written on it.

What Tampa International Airport says happens on day 46, and who takes the car

The consequence lives with the police, not with the cashier. On its Reclaiming an Impounded Vehicle page the airport states that vehicles may be impounded from airport parking facilities if left for more than 45 consecutive days, and that this information is prominently posted on signs located at the entrance of each parking facility and printed on the back of parking tickets. The parking page softens it to a condition: if your car is left for longer than 45 days and we cannot contact you, it may be impounded.

A car that reaches that point has already been billed for the full permitted stay, up to $990 in Economy Parking and $1,440 in the Short Term Garage, and the tow bill starts on top of it. Recovery is priced by a third party and paid in a form most travellers no longer carry. Impounded vehicles are claimed by contacting Stepp’s Towing on (800) 330-8651, and the airport says vehicles impounded from its property are typically transported to 4214 W. Cayuga Street in Tampa. Stepp’s Towing accepts cash, debit card, money order or cashier’s check, and the airport spells out that no credit cards or personal checks are accepted. Two neighbouring rules widen the exposure: a vehicle parked on airport property anywhere other than in a parking facility is considered abandoned and impounded immediately, and one left unattended on the arrival or departure curbsides is subject to immediate impound.

One of the two publication routes misses the driver most exposed to it. A parking ticket carries the rule on its back, and a pre-booked customer is told to scan the QR code from the confirmation email at the entrance instead of taking a ticket, with a pulled ticket listed on the airport’s refund form as a reason to ask for money back. Miami anchors its own 45 days to Florida Statute 705.184 with a hyperlink. Tampa anchors its to a street address and a towing company.

Seven nights and fourteen at each Tampa ceiling, and the $70 that buys two taxi legs

No Tampa International Airport page multiplies its own daily maximum by anything, so the totals here are arithmetic on the published ceiling rather than a figure the airport quotes. Seven consecutive 24 hour periods cannot bill more than $154 at Economy Parking, $182 at the Long Term Garage or $224 at the Short Term Garage. Fourteen reach $308, $364 and $448. The full 45 days reach $990, $1,170 and $1,440.

Set the cheapest against the dearest and the gap is exactly $70 over seven nights, $140 over fourteen and $450 over the full permitted stay. That first figure has a use. The airport’s ground transportation page prices Yellow Cab at a flat rate fee of $40 to downtown Tampa and the cruise terminal, and lists Tampa Cruise Port at 9.5 miles, so a cruise passenger who parks in the Short Term Garage for a week spends the difference twice over on the two taxi rides the sailing already requires. Choosing the garage above the terminal costs the same as getting to the ship and back.

Three TPA pages still price a week $28 under the parking page

The airport’s own news section prices the same three products differently, and the divergence is uniform. Breaking Down Costs, dated March 20, 2026, gives $28 max per 24 hours for the Short Term Garage, $22 for the Long Term Garage and $18 for Economy Parking. The holiday parking guide of November 6, 2025 repeats those three and labels them explicitly: these are drive-up gate rates. Common Parking Questions, also dated March 20, 2026, carries the $18 for Economy on its own.

Each of those maxima sits $4 below the figure on the parking page, so a seven night budget built from a news guide lands $28 short at whichever product the driver picks. The collision is neater than that. A week in the Long Term Garage as the news pages price it comes to $154, which is exactly what the parking page charges for a week in Economy Parking, the cheaper product. A reader working from one document and paying at the other has budgeted for the middle garage and bought the bottom one.

The free window moves as well. Economy Parking gives a first hour free on the rate page and a first 15 minutes free on both March 2026 news pages, with a $1 increment there against $5 an hour on the rate page, and the post of 4 June 2026 dates that split, because the 15 minutes was the rule until the 4 August 2026 change gave every garage the first hour. Two later news items, both dated August 21, 2026, publish clearances, payment notes and booking advice and print no daily maximum at all, which is the safer omission. Nothing on tampaairport.com reconciles the sets, and the airport’s own newsroom post of 4 June 2026 is the notice nobody carried over: the Board approved a rise of $4 a day at all three garages effective 4 August 2026, its first parking adjustment since February 2023.

Booking ahead at TPA stops on exactly the day the impound rule starts

The reservation ceiling and the parking ceiling are the same number, so the booking system closes on the day the impound rule opens. The airport FAQ answers that the maximum booking duration is 45 days, that a space can be booked 365 days in advance, and that the reservation must be made no later than 24 hours before arrival, so same day booking does not exist. Any of the three garages can be pre-booked subject to availability, with the exception of the cell phone waiting lot. There is no administrative fee, and the price includes taxes.

What the airport never publishes is the number that would make the reservation decidable. Booking online is always cheaper, the FAQ says, and lower rates than drive-up parking, the accessible guide says, and no page on tampaairport.com prints the online rate for any garage. The booking address the airport gives, park.tampaairport.com, returned 403 for its robots.txt and a 303 with an empty body when read on September 10, 2026, so the cheaper online price is asserted on the airport’s pages and quantified on none of them.

Three published conditions bite hardest on a stay measured in weeks. A cancellation more than 24 hours before arrival is refunded in full, and one inside 24 hours is charged 50% of the total cost of the booking, waived in the event of airport closure. A shorter stay is not refunded at all: we cannot provide refunds if you decide on a shorter stay. And a longer one is settled at the barrier, with the airport stating that a driver who stays longer than expected pays the outstanding charges upon exiting the parking garage, which its Top 5 FAQs page renders as the standard parking charges for the actual duration used. The cheaper online rate covers the days booked; the extra day reverts to the gate.

Prepaying also costs the transponder lane. SunPass Plus can be used for all TPA parking garages at posted parking rates, the airport says, and in the same breath that it is not possible to combine SunPass with online parking reservations, with booked drivers told to enter and exit through any lane other than the SunPass lane. Two savings that look additive are mutually exclusive.

Which Tampa garage wins a week, and when none of the three does

For total cash across seven or fourteen nights, Economy Parking wins at $154 and $308, and the margin over the Long Term Garage is $28 a week. The criterion is money at the gate with tax included, and the qualifier is the SkyConnect ride from Level 1 rather than a walk. For a driver who will not put luggage on a train, the Long Term Garage wins at $182, which is $26 per 24 hours, or $4 a day for a moving walkway on Level 4 instead of a train. The Short Term Garage wins nothing on a long stay: it is the same 45 days for $70 more a week, and stretched to the full permitted stay it reaches $1,440 against $990 in Economy Parking.

Height reorders the field completely, and it runs against the price. Vehicle clearance is 6 feet 8 inches at the Short Term Garage, 7 feet 10 inches at the Long Term Garage, and at Economy Parking 8 feet on Levels 2 to 6 with 13 feet on Level 1 and the surface lot. So the cheapest product is the only one a full size van or a roof box can enter, and anything over 8 feet parks uncovered for the whole trip. That inversion is the opposite of the way Orlando publishes a separate ceiling for each of its lots, where the tall vehicle and the longest permitted stay are pushed into the same lot by rule rather than by roof height.

Three cases send a driver away from all three garages. A stay that reaches day 46 exposes the car to impound, and the only published route is a call to the parking office before travelling. A wheelchair equipped vehicle over 7 feet 10 inches is told to call (813) 870-8791 for parking instructions before arrival, so its space is not on any rate table. A motorcycle has nothing to choose: parking options are not available to motorcycles, the airport FAQ says flatly, where Miami sells motorcycle bays inside its garages at a daily rate of $12.00. An electric car adds a fourth case, because the level 2 chargers sit in the Short Term Garage and the Cell Phone Waiting Lot while the two long stay garages carry level 1 chargers across 12 published spaces between them. Cruise passengers weighing all of this against landing on the other side of the state will find the sums in the comparison of the two airports that serve Port Tampa Bay.

Details that only reach a car left at TPA for a whole trip

  • The 13 feet is published twice and left out of everything else. Only the parking page and the accessible parking guide of August 21, 2026 mention the uncovered surface lot; the airport FAQ, the green parking page and two news items give Economy Parking as 8 feet flat.
  • Luggage carts cost money on both ends of the trip. Smarte Carte rentals are $6 with a 25-cent return refund, and the machines accept cash and credit card, at the elevator banks named for each garage.
  • A hurricane is refundable and a cancelled flight is not. The refund request form lists weather related cancellation, medical emergency, a pulled ticket and tax charged to a tax exempt traveller, then states that the airport will not be responsible for refunding parking fees incurred due to delays or cancellations resulting from the airline or baggage.
  • Bags cannot be left behind at the terminal instead. TPA does not offer luggage storage, its FAQ says, and points to day passes sold by the Tampa Airport Marriott that include it.
  • The barrier takes more payment types than the website does. At the garages the airport accepts cash, American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, SunPass Plus, Apple Pay and Google Pay; online it accepts major credit and debit cards and refuses SunPass Plus outright.
  • The free lot is 5 minutes away by car and carries the fast chargers. The airport puts the Cell Phone Waiting Lot at a 5 minute drive to the Main Terminal with no clearance limit and 8 EV spaces split between the north and south sides of the restrooms, on level 2 chargers rather than the level 1 units in the two long stay garages.
  • The number to call about a dead battery is the number that runs the garages. ABM Parking Management answers on (813) 870-8791, and the same line covers a flat tyre on return, an online reservation query and an extended stay beyond 45 days.
  • Three of the airport’s own parking URLs publish nothing. The green parking pages for the long term garage and the economy garage still serve nothing of their own, so the charger detail sits on their parent page, while the cell phone lot page has since filled in, read on 15 September 2026: a 5 minute drive to the Main Terminal, no vehicle clearance limit, free parking and eight designated spaces split between the north and south sides of the restrooms.

Assumptions about a long stay at TPA that its own pages contradict

Budgeting from a TPA news guide. Three of them price a day $4 below the rate page, so a week comes out as $196, $154 and $126 instead of $224, $182 and $154, a shortfall of $28 at every product and $180 across the full 45 days, and the most recent of the three is dated March 20, 2026.

Reading 45 days as a property of the garage. It is a property of the airport, extended in writing to accessible spaces and to the vehicles that park free under Florida State Statutes, so switching product to buy time changes nothing.

Expecting the impound notice to arrive with the car. One of the two places the airport says the rule is printed is the back of a parking ticket, and a pre-booked driver is instructed to scan a QR code rather than pull one.

Stacking the transponder on the online rate. SunPass Plus works at every TPA garage at posted rates and cannot be combined with a reservation, and a booked car must avoid the SunPass lane in both directions.

Treating 8 feet as the Economy ceiling. Eight feet is the covered part of that garage; the 13 feet belongs to Level 1 and the surface lot, which is where a tall vehicle spends the week, and only two of the six documents that publish that clearance say so. Drivers who also park at MIA can compare the whole ladder against what Miami charges at each of its parking barriers, where Miami-Dade applies one 7 foot limit to all three of its garages.

Which Tampa page carried each figure, and the month it was read

The three maximum charges, the hourly increments, the 45 day limits, the clearances, the payment methods, the Smarte Carte fees, the refund grounds and the ABM contact number were read on the parking page at tampaairport.com on September 10, 2026, in two separate requests that returned 168,465 bytes each with identical text. The booking ceiling of 45 days, the 365 day window, the 24 hour notice, the cancellation terms, the overstay clause and the motorcycle answer come from the airport FAQ on the same domain and the same date. The impound rule, the Stepp’s Towing contact and the Cayuga Street address come from the airport’s Reclaiming an Impounded Vehicle page. The free parking criteria, the 13 foot surface lot and the instruction for wheelchair equipped vehicles come from its accessible parking guide of August 21, 2026; the $28, $22 and $18 maxima from its Breaking Down Costs and Common Parking Questions items of March 20, 2026 and its holiday parking guide of November 6, 2025. The flat $40 taxi fare and the 9.5 miles to Tampa Cruise Port come from its ground transportation page, the fare re-read on 11 September 2026 after that page raised it from $35. The Miami figures come from the airport parking page at miami-airport.com, read twice on September 10, 2026 at 54,651 bytes each. Port Tampa Bay’s own site is not among the sources behind this guide, so nothing here is attributed to the seaport and the cruise terminal figures come from the airport instead.

The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Parking rates usually change in January, shuttle fares and cruise line transfer prices change by season, and ship schedules change weekly; check the issuer’s page before you travel. No provider paid for placement here, and none can pay to appear. Where a booking link earns Lot and Gate a commission it is marked as sponsored and flagged in this line, and as of September 2026 no affiliate link is live anywhere on this site.

What drivers ask before leaving a car at TPA for a week or more

The answers below use the September 10, 2026 readings above, including the airport wide 45 day limit, the three maximum charges on the parking page, and the impound terms on the airport police page.

How long can you leave a car at Tampa airport?

Forty-five days everywhere. The rule Tampa International Airport publishes is that the maximum length of parking at any airport facility is 45 days, and the figure repeats beside all three garage maximum charges, in its accessible parking guide and for the vehicles it parks free under Florida State Statutes.

How much is a week of parking at Tampa airport?

Seven consecutive 24 hour periods cannot bill more than $154 at Economy Parking, $182 at the Long Term Garage or $224 at the Short Term Garage, tax included, using the maximum charges published on the airport parking page. Those totals are arithmetic on the ceiling, not figures TPA quotes.

What happens if you leave a car at TPA longer than 45 days?

Airport police at Tampa International Airport state that vehicles may be impounded from airport parking facilities if left for more than 45 consecutive days. Impounded cars are claimed from Stepp’s Towing on (800) 330-8651, usually at 4214 W. Cayuga Street in Tampa, which takes cash, debit card, money order or cashier’s check only.

Can you book long-term parking at Tampa airport in advance?

Yes, in any of the three garages but not the cell phone waiting lot. The airport FAQ gives a booking window of 365 days, a deadline of 24 hours before arrival and a maximum booking duration of 45 days, with no administrative fee and taxes included in the price.

Which Tampa airport garage is cheapest for a long stay?

Economy Parking, at a maximum charge of $22 per 24 hours with tax included, which is $154 across seven nights and $308 across fourteen. That is $70 less than the Short Term Garage over a week, within $10 of the two flat rate taxi legs TPA publishes to the cruise terminal at $40 each.

Can a tall vehicle park long term at Tampa airport?

Clearance is 6 feet 8 inches at the Short Term Garage and 7 feet 10 inches at the Long Term Garage, so tall vehicles go to Economy Parking, which publishes 8 feet on Levels 2 to 6 and 13 feet on Level 1 and the surface lot. Wheelchair equipped vehicles over 7 feet 10 inches call (813) 870-8791 first.

A ceiling that ignores the price is the one an airport can actually enforce

Miami-Dade has to publish three limits, one for a garage at $25.00 a day, one for a valet counter at $39.00 and none at all for its $12.00 lot, and then remember which product each belongs to. Hillsborough County has one, and it prints it on the entrance sign of every facility, on the back of every ticket, in its accessible guide and beside a rate of zero dollars.

The uniformity has a cost that falls on the traveller rather than the operator. Because 45 days does not move with the price, no amount of money buys a longer stay at Tampa International Airport, and a driver leaving for seven weeks has the same conversation with the parking office whether the car is in the $22 garage or the $32 one. Miami at least sells a product with no published ceiling at all.

One number fits on every sign at TPA. That is why the cheapest space carries the same wall as the dearest.
